The Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning (DELWP), Victoria, has completed the first of several Bellarine Peninsula beach renourishments.

The northern waterfront of St. Leonards was recently renovated, and as a result, the previously small shoreline was widened by 15 meters, according to DELWP(The Australian Department of Environment Land Water and Planning). The beach renourishment is designed to protect the coastline from further erosion, caused by more severe storms and rising sea levels attributed to climate change. Approximately 35,000m3 of sand was pumped onshore and 25,000m3 was used to construct the beach profile at St Leonardsā€™ southern beach.

Enlarging the shoreline has improved the recreational area, protected coastal assets from inundation, and decreased the likelihood of erosion along the coastline. Over 25,000m2 of sand was harvested from an offshore location, pumped to shore, and then spread out and profiled landscaping and the planting of indigenous plants along the shoreline are examples of post-works.

The construction camera installed on the company’s site proved to be a valuable asset for various purposes. Firstly, it was used to monitor the day-to-day progress of the construction project, which helped the project managers to keep track of the work being done and ensure that everything was on schedule. This also allowed the project stakeholders to make informed decisions about any necessary adjustments or changes.

The camera provided visual indicators that were helpful in monitoring water quality and turbidity, which was crucial for the construction project’s environmental impact. This allowed the company to take corrective measures if necessary and ensure that they were complying with any regulations or standards related to water quality.

The construction camera also provided remote access for project managers, allowing them to check in and monitor the project’s progress without having to travel to the site, saving time and resources. This allowed for more efficient project management and ensured that any issues or concerns were addressed in a timely manner.

The camera was used as a community engagement and promotional tool for social media. The company shared images and updates about the project’s progress, creating awareness and generating interest from the public. This helped to build positive relationships with the community and increased the company’s visibility in the market.
